Unbanded

The first German cut from 1969 (here on a reissue from 1973) is a good record. If taken for itself alone, it would sound splendid, with strong, detailed midrange and fine-resolved trebles. In the hi-hat area it is on par with both the Japanese and the Australian version, plus it retains the original’s unbanded structure.

However, in a battle it immediately reveals its weakness. The bass has been significantly turned down. The intro beats of “Something” fall somewhat short, as Paul’s bass just does not deliver what Ringo’s drums announce. This is valid for the entire album: although the overall characteristics of the sound are quite close to the -2/-1 version, the bass is weaker throughout.
