The UK 1st pressing will serve as the reference record. This is really a fine, fine tube cut with -1/-1 matrices. The quality can be assessed on tracks like “With a Little Help from my Friends” which features both a structured bass, very nice-sounding trebles (tambourine) and Ringo’s vocals. The true litmus test is of course “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” where the voice is very present against the driving bass line, supported by the Lowry organ and the guitars. “Fixing a Hole” features very nice trebles, while the details of mid-and low range are evident on the orchestrated “She’s Leaving Home”. “Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite”, being heavily treated with effects, demonstrates both a well-defined bass and some fine cymbals. And of course, “A Day in The Life”, with its great instrument and vocal separation, effects, John’s voice traveling from one side to another – this is just mind-blowing. A very powerful, well-balanced, overall harmonic cut.
Note: the final gibberish happens as is intended, in the locked groove.
Overall: A splendid time is guaranteed for all.
